The first order of business for Gimpy and I on our free day was to sleep in. Since we arrived, we hadn’t had a proper day to catch up on sleep so this was the day! We were lucky, because when we woke up, it was down pouring quite hard outside, so we dodged a bullet being indoors rather than outdoors during this.
Dedikodu
After taking our time getting up, we made our way to a coffee place called Dedikodu. We ordered Turkish coffee and spent the morning chatting and relaxing. Because it’s October, the city wasn’t very busy it was nice to people watch without it feeling too crowded.
Natur-el
By the time we were ready to leave, it was lunch time and after doing a little bit of searching on trip adviser, we stumbled upon another cool restaurant called Natur-el. Funny enough, the restaurant was literally two storefronts down from Dedikodu. So it wasn’t much of a stretch for us to relocate from our comfortable outdoor coffee shop seats, to our comfortable outdoor restaurant seats. Gimpy and I shared two dishes: Almond Chicken and Lamb Ravioli. Both were really really good. We read a lot of good reviews and really enjoyed both items!
My Wet Mistake
The skies were looking a little sketchy, so we decided to stick around under the awning of our lunch place for a little longer. However with no rain, we decided to set off and explore Kas a little more. We didn’t have a direction we wanted to go, so we wandered the streets enjoying the quaint shops and cool buildings.
As we were walking the storm clouds started to look a little more menacing.
When rain started to drizzle, Gimpy suggested that we duck into some shelter in an apartment building we just passed . Instead I thought we could make it to an awning a little ways ahead. I was wrong and should have listened to Gimpy. Before we were even halfway to the awning, the skies opened up and it started to POUR. By the time we got to the awning, we were already drenched. To make matters worse, the awning I was aiming for was not sufficient to cover both Gimpy and I. The rain started to come down even harder, and the water started to pool in the streets. We were seeing cars drive by and we feared getting splashed by an oncoming vehicle. We knew we wouldn’t be able to stay under this awning. So we decided to brave the water, head down a flight of stairs (which was more like a waterfall at this point) where a kind stranger waved us into an alcove of a building she had taken shelter in.
We were finally under some proper shelter and by this time I knew I’d made a mistake trying for that awning! Gimpy was right and probably should have back tracked to the apartment building, as we were both soaked to the bone! (Though we were able to laugh about it!). As quickly as the deluge began it was over in 10 minutes.
Amphitheater
While we’re both soaked, we decided to stay out and dry off. We walked over to the ancient Greek theater which overlooked the water. By the time we arrived the sun had come out and we were drying off. We spent some time exploring the theater climbing to the top of it. Its quite beautiful and the fact that it overlooks the water makes it even more of an attraction. Though its quite a site, we didn’t spend too much time there since there’s only so much of an amphitheater you can explore.
Back to Dedikodu
After visiting the theater we actually returned to Dedikodu for another afternoon coffee.
We were hoping to visit a Falafel place that was close to it. It wasn’t suppose to open until close to dinner so our plan was to wait. However after asking around we were told that it wouldn’t open until the evening. We were a bit bummed and decided to return to our hotel to clean up and relax a little until our group would get together for dinner. We returned to smiley’s for dinner and it was nice to be together with the group once again.
Wedding Crashers
After dinner, a bunch of wanted to go out, so Ibo took us to a local bar to grab a few drinks. At first it was actually just our group in the bar, and it was kind of fun to have drinks and hang out with our fellow tour mates.
However as the night wore on an entire wedding party joined us and the party got going. Everyone was having a great time and it was so neat that the wedding party had no issues simply partying with these foreigners they’ve never met.
The drinks were flowing, the music was going and people were moving! We went late into the night and early morning.
We had a moderately early start the next day so a few of us retired back to our hotels while a few stayed with our guide Ibo. At breakfast, I found out they were out quite late 🙂
Yes, we feared getting splashed by cars but you forgot that we ACTUALLY got splashed!
HAHAHAHA
You’re Right……… we did get splashed…. I may have embellished my part in this debacle a little…..
