After our first port stop in Florence, we continue on our Mediterranean cruise with stops in Cannes and Marseille
Cannes
I was always curious when Cannes ended up on our itinerary. I’ve always associated it with the glitz and glamor of movie stars and the cinema being that it is the host city of the Cannes film festival. So I was excited to check the “lifestyles of the rich and famous”. Interestingly enough we were pretty close to the time the festival would be occurring so there was some signage denoting this. We also strolled by the famous InterContinental Carlton where many famous celebrities have stayed over the years.
After geeking out a bit, we stopped for breakfast/brunch and had one of the softest, tastiest most buttery croissant I’ve ever had. My sister and I made it a point to enjoy the patio, the view of the beach and the buttery buttery croissant.
After, we decided to simply explore Cannes. We soon came to realize that the town itself was this really down to earth place with markets, shopping and beautiful beaches. We spent some time walking along the water and enjoying the waterfront.
I found that I really enjoyed Cannes. Aside from the famous festival it seemed like a city with a great deal of character. We got to visit a farmers market and checked out a bit of weird art as well!
At one point we made our way up a hill to overlook the city. Its beautiful and I certainly want to return at some point to explore and relax. I really enjoyed my time in Cannes.
Before getting back on our cruise ship we explored the city a little more and ended up stopping at a small restaurant to sample some mussels and fries. I can safely say it was extremely tasty!
Marseille
Our next stop was the French city of Marseille. Â After the very positive experience in Cannes we were excited to explore Marseille. We arrived in the morning and spent the better part of it exploring the Marseille waterfront. It’s a pretty waterfront, however I didn’t think it was anything extraordinary and that seemed to be our general consensus for the city.
We spent some time in one of the shopping districts, but our overall impression was that it was typical large french city.
Back to the Epic
It didn’t seem to have anything that really “popped” for us. It’s possible that we didn’t give enough time or consideration. Or after a a few weeks of travel we had an off day. But we ended up returning to the boat early. Instead we decided to enjoy some of the amenities of the Norwegian Epic. In the end we were still pretty happy we went, and it was still a great time relaxing on the boat.
Our next stop would be Barcelona and we were really looking forward to it!
