It’d only been two days but we already started feeling the “fullness” of the days we’d had in Sydney. Today we didn’t have as many stops, so we were looking forward to a “more relaxed” day starting with a coastal walk.
Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk
Fortunately Photo’s cousins are very close to Bondi Junction Station/ So it made getting to Bondi beach extremely easy. A single bus (381) got us there in a matter of minutes. When we arrived the initial view of Bondi beach was awesome! But like many locals have said, it was a bit crowded and touristy. We kind of expected this, but that first impression is always great!
We proceeded to take the coastal walk between Bondi and Coogee beach, and this I HIGHLY recommend. While the beaches are good, the walk is AMAZING! There is nothing like this for me at home and I really loved the variety of views you get walking along the rocks and smaller beaches. Overall the walk is about six kilometres and can be done in around two hours. It’s not difficult, and is actually very leisurely and relaxing. This was one of my favourite things in Sydney. Simply Amazing!
Sydney Fish Market
After completing the walk, we had heard a lot of good things about the Sydney Fish Market. I was reminded of a visit to Spain when you could choose from live seafood and they would cook it for you on the spot. However, I found the Sydney fish market to be far more touristy then I had hoped for. There were lots of tours going through the market, and it seemed that there was a large Asian influence to the cuisine that they were offering. Photos, one of his friends and I picked up a few items to try including fish and chips, a BBQ mackerel and I tried a scallop aburi.
I was a bit underwhelmed with the food and the prices were very pricey (even for Sydney). Overall I would probably give this a pass if i were to visit again.
Darling Harbour
We only had a quick chance to visit Darling harbour on our first day here, but we got to walk through a bit more after the fish market. Its a well developed walk along the water. We were lucky to catch it on a bright sunny day and enjoyed the leisurely stroll along the harbour We also had a chance to stroll through some cool mall plazas as well!
Aladdin
We didn’t anticipate watching a show while we were on vacation, but Physio mentioned he was going to Aladdin and suggested we try to get rush tickets the day of the performance. We lined up about 2 hours before the show and as the box office processed the queue we were able to secure tickets in the 4th row of the auditorium. Photos previously worked at Disney, and I’ve enjoyed all things Disney, so this was certainly a treat for us! I’m not sure how much longer the Aladdin musical will be around in Sydney and where they’re off too next, but its an excellent show and I’d recommend it to anyone! The Genie is amazing!
At the end of the performance we walked around to the back of the theatre and was able to catch the cast as they exited the building. We also got to take pictures with the cast!
It was an amazing day at a slightly slower pace and was much needed!
