Good Morning Halifax
We are in Halifax, Nova Scotia today. We start our morning in the familiar confines of the Lido Market for breakfast. The plan for today would be to walk along the waterfront, before heading to the Alexander Keith’s Brewery. Back in 2021, the Parental Minions and I visited Halifax before so a lot of this is familiar to us. Being able to experience it this time with The Sister is something we’re all looking forward to!
Halifax Waterfront
After breakfast we head to the gangway where we disembark from the boat. The cool thing about the port is its not too far away from the main Halifax Waterfront area. After a short walk we arrive at the main waterfront area! Since its a beautiful day, it makes for a very enjoyable and leisurely stroll along the water. And even though its a familiar walk for a few of us, we’re still happy to snap some updated photos of the area and take it all in!
Alexander Keith’s Brewery Tour
One of the things on our agenda is the Alexander Keith’s Brewery Tour. Papa Minion and I did this on our 2021 tour around the Maritimes. We enjoyed it so much he insists that the entire family go on this tour since we’re in Halifax again. So we make our way to the brewery and check in. The tour isn’t too dissimilar to the first time we went through it. The first half goes through the history of the famous beer offering tastings along the way.
Drinks and a show!
However, the second half of the tour is probably what Papa Minion wants the family to experience. The group gets to sample a variety of different Alexander Keith’s offerings while the guides who coincidentally are all trained musicians, perform for us! It turns into a bit of a mini party and ends up being a really good time of music, drinks and laughter! Since the groups are relatively small, you also get to enjoy it with your fellow tour mates and overall it ends up being a super fun time!
More Waterfront
Regrettably we end up having to leave Alexander Keith’s, and we find ourselves back on the waterfront. Aside from the tour we don’t really have much more of a plan, we meander along the water and pick up some snacks along the way. We’re simply just enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery around Halifax. At one point we did discuss having lunch in Halifax, but nothing really jumped out at us. So we instead decide to head back to the cruise ship in the early afternoon.
After returning to the boat we end up just relaxing for the afternoon. We find a quiet spot to do our favourite past time of playing cards and have well deserved family time together.
Sunset Cruise
Before we know it, it’s time for dinner. But we do make sure we step outside to catch the sunset which is beautiful this evening. I’d like to say the evening is super eventful, but we simply end up having dinner in the Lido market once again, before catching one of the entertainment acts onboard and turning in for a very fulfilling and relaxing day.
Sydney, Nova Scotia
Our next stop after Halifax, is Sydney. While our trip in 2021 did take us to Cape Breton Island, we never made it to the Sydney side of it. I’d like to say there’s a lot to see here, but Sydney is a very small town. I think if you want to see more, you need to arrange transport or a tour to go deeper into Cape Breton Island. However for us, since we’ve done this already we didn’t feel the need to. So we decide to stick around town instead. The town itself is very compact and we walked most of it in an hour or so. There are some cool bits of art to check out. Beyond that, you get a very small town vibe.
Sufficed to say, we were back on the boat pretty early and settled in to play more card games together! As we round Cape Breton Island, we also catch some great glimpses of it as we cruise around it enroute to Prince Edward Island.
Overall these two days in Nova Scotia, have been lovely, very relaxed and a wonderful time spent with family!
Halifax waterfront is always a favourite spot for me – every visit is fresh & memorable!
