We are setting off again! This time to New York and the East Coast with the immediate Travelling Minion Family! The plan is to spend a few days in New York, train to Boston, then board a cruise that will take us around the maritime provinces before we fly home from Montreal.
YVR Transborder Plaza Premium Lounge
Today is mainly a travel day since we need to fly from Vancouver to New York. We get to the airport in the morning, check into our flight, and clear immigration and security. Once airside we head to the Plaza Premium lounge where we settle in for some breakfast. One of the bigger reasons for this trip is simply to spend more time together as a family. As we all have busy lives, finding time together is valuable and being able to take this trip is something we all look forward to. In some cases the destination(s) isn’t even that important but experiencing travel together is something we’re all eager to do! And the fun times start right when we get to the lounge. With some food, coffee and mini group games on a phone we are all giggling and starting the trip on a positive note!
Air Canada 548 from Vancouver to Newark (New York)
Soon it’s time for us to make our way to the gate to begin the boarding process. The flight is relatively full, but thankfully we’re able to get ourselves exit row seats which makes the five hour flight a little more comfortable.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to convince the passenger in the aisle seat of my row to let me sit closer to my family. But I’m glad that the majority of our family did get to sit together for the flight. With the sun shining, we have a lovely departure out of Vancouver. Overall the flight is pretty smooth and uneventful. I settle in to watch a few episodes of Monarch (which has since inspired both The Sister and I to binge watch it back home!). Before we know it we are touching down in New York!
New York
After collecting our bags, we catch an Uber into Manhattan. It takes us about an hour to get from Newark Airport to the World Trade Centre area where our hotel is. After checking in and getting settled for a little bit, we set out in the evening for a brief stroll and in search of food. Thankfully, we are staying pretty central to the World Trade Centre area and so we’re within walking distance to lots of attractions that the parental Minions are keen to see. But for tonight its just a leisurely walk around our neighbourhood to get our bearings and stretch our legs.
Eataly
Soon our thoughts turn towards food. Nearby to our hotel is Eataly. This is an Italian market/restaurant that has locations all over the US. It’s something the Sister and I experienced for the first time over a decade ago on my first trip to New York and has held a special spot ever since. So we figure its a decent place to bring the parents this time! Even though we all snacked a little on the plane, we were all eager to scarf down some tasty Italian food. And scarf we did, one thing we can be sure of on this trip, this is a family of eaters! As always Eataly does not disappoint! Everything is delicious and for our first meal in New York we were all very happy with it!
Evening Stroll
After taking a little time to digest, we set out for a bit of a walk around the area to work off a bit of dinner. It’s a lovely area and in the evening with the lights, it makes for a great bit of ambience when strolling.
Soon we decide to head back to the hotel as we have a full day of exploring New York tomorrow. We wash up, and settle down for the evening. For a first travel day its already been one full of laughs and memories. With the promise of much more to come!
Such precious memories to cherish! Thanks for keeping an update!
