Planning for Ireland

Ireland

With 2022 seeing the world returning to normal the hope was to resume travelling more. This started with a trip earlier in the year to Maui. However, others had the same idea and the summer of 2022 saw a very rocky resumption of worldwide travel. With high demand for travel after two years of not, the world saw heavy demand for travel and much of the industry struggling to meet it.

With this in mind I made a preemptive booking for the Fall of 2022 when prices were more reasonable and hopefully things settling down a little.

Well fall is here, and tomorrow I will be embarking on a trip across the Atlantic to Ireland for a little over a week.

Normally I would go for longer, but what surprised me when planning this trip is actually how expensive Ireland is. So capping the duration of the trip was something that helped keep the costs down.

I already know that the short time in Ireland will not do it justice. So like other short trips, I expect this to be a sampling of what this country has to offer. It will be a rather busy trip, spending a few days in three spots and trying to soak in as much as I can!

The Itinerary

Even with a compact itinerary, I have a few things I really want to do. These are (In no particular order):

  1. Have a Guinness! Preferably from the Guinness Storehouse!
  2. Visit the Jameson Distillery and taste a few Whiskys
  3. Visit the Cliffs of Moher
  4. Visit the Giants Causeway

With some of these items being in the West and North of the island, I have a little bit of distance to travel. After some careful research and planning I end up with a itinerary that looks like this:

  • Fly to Dublin
  • Immediately take a bus to Galway
  • Spend two and a half days in Galway including a day tour out to the Cliffs of Moher
  • Bus back to Dublin
  • Train to Belfast
  • Spend two and a half days in Belfast including a day tour out to the Giant’s Causeway
  • Train back to Dublin
  • Spend three and a half days exploring Dublin
    • Visit the Guinness Storehouse
    • Visit the Jameson Distillery
  • Fly home to Canada

I did try to pack in as much as I could for the time I’ll be in the country. There will be a fair bit of travel between the cities, so while it does feel a little busy I’m hoping I’ll also find time to sit back and take in a lot of the natural beauty that Ireland is known for!

I already know that for me to really explore Ireland properly, a return trip is going to be required! I know I’ll only be scratching the surface of this place and spending more time in each spot would provide a great amount of value as well. All in All, I’m excited to be travelling again, and already knowing how rich in beauty Ireland is only serves to amplify that feeling! More to come since we fly tomorrow!

Follow the adventure!
