First Trip of the Year
I’m about to leave on my first trip of the year!
My first trip of 2019 will be to Montreal, Canada in February! I’ve been to Montreal before, albeit over a decade ago, so I was excited when the opportunity came up. Like I had mentioned in my 2018 Wrap up, I don’t have many 2019 plans for travel.
Flights and Accommodations
And while this isn’t exactly last minute, it did result from one of my many “explore a destination” searches on Google Flights or Kayak. A good price popped up, I asked around and Gimpy agreed to tag along!
So with the destination set, my next step is usually to list out a few “musts”. However, given that I’ve been to Montreal before, most of my thoughts were on relaxing and eating! Both Gimpy and I also have a friend that is currently going to school there, so a visit with her would be in the cards as well.
We booked direct flights from Vancouver to Montreal, and booked an AirBnB in the Plateau Mont-Royal area. We’d read that this area is a pretty lively part of town with great eateries and night life!
Day Trip
One of the things we decided on is to make a day trip from Montreal to Ottawa. We’d both never been and seeing as its our nations capital city thought it is worth a visit! I’ve always been a little bit of a history buff, so I’m looking forward to seeing our parliament buildings and skate down the Rideau Canal.
Relax!
Beyond that, I think our pace is going to be slow and easy. From everything I’ve read, Montreal has a great vibe and ambiance to it. From the historic buildings of old town Montreal, to the views atop Mont Royal. This city has a lot of small interesting bits to explore and we plan to check as much of it out as we can!
Cold Outside!
The final consideration when it comes to preparing for this trip is, its winter. And Montreal can get quite cold. Normally people tend to flock towards the sun and warmer parts of the world during the winter months. However, I’ve found that I enjoy some of the cooler climates in past travels and am excited to experience a Canadian East Coast winter. So while a little extra thought needs to go into what to pack, a winter adventure is something to get excited for!
January has been an extremely busy month for me, and I’m looking forward to taking this time to get away and unwind a little.
