Throwback Thursdays – Buenos Aires

Salsa

Recounting some of my adventures while not on the road. I traveled through Argentina on my way to Antarctica in early 2015, I started with a few days in Buenos Aires.

Upon arriving in BA, my first impressions of the city was that it was a very European looking city. Much of the city’s architecture was inspired by Europe and it has been considered the “Paris of South America”.  I wouldn’t disagree as it reminded me a lot of my travels throughout Europe.

We stayed in the Recoleta district of BA and found it to be a great place to be. Many things were within walking distance and there are plenty of cabs all over BA.

On our first day we made our way to the Recoleta Cemetery.  It is noteworthy as this is where the tomb of Eva Peron is located.  Her tomb specifically is rather unassuming, but there were many other monolithic  memorials there.

In the evening we sampled our first (of many) Argentinian Asado (Barbecue).

We took two free walking tours on our second day and loved it. Originally we were only going to do the one Buenos Aires Free Tour, but enjoyed the first one so much we ended up going to the second one as well. We got to explore more of Buenos Aires and learn about their history and current events at the same time.

The next days we spent exploring the neighborhoods of  Palmero and exploring the Markets and Tango Dancing at San Telmo. One of the very cool t hings about Buenos Aires is that people seem generally happy to be hanging out everywhere and anywhere!  Life is to be enjoyed and it certainly seemed that way!

In the evening we went to a closed-door restaurant called Steaks by Luis. We had to make these reservations in advance but the private, personalized and “familial” nature of it made it a very cool experience!

I really enjoyed my time in Buenos Aires. It was great to visit such a unique place in the world.  We would only get to spend a few days here, but would certainly enjoy re-visiting in the near future!

Next up would be a short flight to Iquazu to view one of the seven natural wonders of the world!
