Throwback Thursdays – Iguazu Falls & Ushuaia

Recounting some of my adventures while not on the road. I traveled through Argentina on my way to Antarctica in early 2015, After Buenos Aires I visited Iguazu falls before arriving in the port city of Ushuaia.

We flew from Buenos Aires to Iguazu falls to spend two days exploring one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Iquazu falls spans across the border of Argentina and Brazil.  Due to time constraints we only explored the Argentinian side.  Nonethless we were able to get some amazing views of the Devils Throat and the falls in general!

It was truly fitting to be a wonder of the world. I was amazed at the vastness of the falls.  I had imagined a single huge waterfall, but this wasn’t like that.  In fact it was a landscape of waterfalls which made it awesome!

Sadly we would need to leave this awesome place (There was more to see and do) and so we left Iquazu and flew to Ushuaia regarded as the southernmost city in the world.  We would be boarding our boat enroute to Antarctica.  But not before we had a day to enjoy what this city had to offer. We arrived in the late afternoon, so we had time for dinner.

One great thing about Ushuaia was the abundance of amazing seafood and King Crab!!  I didn’t anticipate how easily accessible it was here and so for dinner we went to Tante Nina and had King Crab Casserole and Garlic Shrimp with Potato

The next day we were free to explore Ushuaia. I strolled through the streets and waterfront and found this little town to be quaint, comfortable and very beautiful! In my planning, I only expected to board our Antarctic boat, but fell in love really wouldn’t mind visiting again in the future.

We loved Tante Nina so much that we went back that night!  This time I tried the king crab soup, pickled mussels and Paella

The next morning we jumped on a half day tour which took us to Tierra del Fuego National Park.  Here we boarded the End of the world Train and explored the beautiful scenary in this part of the world.

If you ever end up here, I would probably skip the train.  Its a little gimmicky (even though there is historical significance to the train itself) and I found the ride a little cheesy. However, renting a car or going with a tour to this region is well worth it!

We arrived back in Ushuaia a little after lunch time, so we quickly visited another seafood restaurant Tia Elvira and had seafood soup and baked trout

Soon after we would meet up with the rest of our Antarctic tourists prior to boarding the Akademik Ioffee, our home for the next two weeks in Antarctica!
